DRABBLE: A Thousand Years From Now

27/09/2009 at 6:24 pm (Drabbles, Fanfiction)

disclaimer- don’t own Naruto, not making profit off this, don’t sue me.

I will probably post this on ffnet, eventually. But for now, it will live here :) It needs to be reworked a few times, I think.

Is it time for my story yet, Momma?
Hm… yes, it’s about time for bed, I’ll tell you your story now.
I want the story about the Sannin!
Sweetheart, don’t you want a new story by now…?
No! Sannin! Sannin!
Very well.
One thousand years from now, mothers will tell their children stories from the days of war, the days before the world was at peace and the ninja slowly faded from existence. The characters will have become mixed up, certain deeds attributed wrongly and certain names forgotten.
The name of Haruno Sakura will have been swallowed up by that of her famous mentor, the fifth Hokage, who will have had pink hair and golden eyes and been famously un-voluptuous.  Uchiha Sasuke’s name will barely be mentioned in passing, a body claimed by Orochimaru, because the ninth Hokage wants that story to be forgotten and wants people to believe that the Snake Sannin, not the village’s golden boy, was responsible for all those evil deeds. Of the three members of the forgotten Team Seven, only Uzumaki Naruto will be remembered outside of the shadow of one of the great Sannin.
Instead, Jiraiya will have been lost to his story. The Sannin will have become Team Seven, and Team Seven will have become the Sannin. The Toad Sage Naruto, the legendary legion-nin and the eighth Hokage of Konohagakure. Senju Tsunade, fifth hokage, summoner of slugs, most powerful medic-nin to walk the face of the earth. Orochimaru, evil genius and avenger, a testament to the seduction of power and revenge.
None of them will be remembered for what they were.
Jiraiya, a deeply flawed and perverted man, but a good one nonetheless.
Tsunade, a sad and terribly scarred woman, unable to face her past but willing to work for the future.
Orochimaru, a man who never felt anything but loneliness and so never gave anything but loneliness in return.
Sasuke, a little boy who died when he was seven years old and who feared life when an obnoxious blonde tried to breathe it back into him, and so fled for the sake of his sanity.
Sakura, a woman who lost her heart at the age of twelve and spent the remainder of her life chasing after it, not realizing that it was right next to her the entire time.
Naruto, sunshine and salvation, but silly and foolish and occasionally stupid.
One thousand years from now, they will be dismissed as a story of heroics and clear-cut morals, and no one will ever wonder what they might have been, what they might have felt.
